No-formula lookup

Do the common XLOOKUP job without writing an Excel formula.

When you only need to bring fields from one table into another, RowPair provides the same practical outcome through a guided workflow. You choose the two key columns and the information to add; it handles the lookup and exposes problematic rows.

Ready-to-use example

Try this job with a small workbook first.

The workbook contains a Main file sheet, a Lookup file sheet, and the expected result. Upload it in both file slots and select the two source sheets when RowPair asks.

When this helps

A focused tool for a common spreadsheet job.

  • People who do not use spreadsheet formulas regularly
  • One-off joins between Excel and CSV files
  • Lookups where duplicates must be reviewed explicitly
  • Sharing a finished file without embedded formulas

Worked example

Two source files become one reviewable result.

The examples below show the fields that matter; your files can contain additional columns and use different column orders.

Step by step

How to do it in RowPair.

  1. 01

    Choose the table to enrich

This plays the role of the table containing your lookup value in a spreadsheet formula.

  2. 02

    Choose the lookup table

Add the file that contains one row per identifier and the values you want returned.

  3. 03

    Map the key columns

Connect Employee ID to Staff no.; their headings and positions do not have to be identical.

  4. 04

    Select return columns

Choose Department and Manager, review exceptions, and download a finished file containing plain values.

Before you export

Checks that prevent a misleading merge.

What this replaces

RowPair replaces exact-match, cross-table lookups. It is not intended to replace calculations, approximate banding, or every advanced formula feature.

No column-number counting

Unlike VLOOKUP, you select return columns by name, so inserting or reordering columns does not change the setup.

Visible exceptions

A formula can leave errors scattered through a worksheet. RowPair groups missing and ambiguous rows for review before export.
